In 2013, we saw substantial growth in our unique alternative spring break program that allows college students to come to selma during the course of their spring break to learn the civil rights history, volunteer and learn how to become grassroots organizers and activists. We believe in the importance of blending strong direct service with educational components to provide alternative breakers with a week they will never forget! In 2013, we were proud to offer alternative break students the opportunity to be trained in kingian non-violence philosophy and techniques. These skills are important in conflict resolution and are critical in helping students address the social issues on their campuses in their communities. This is a hands-on learning experience for college students is set in the very heart where the voting rights movement took place in 1965 - this historical backdrop provides the perfect setting for teaching and inspiration for continued change in america. WE BELIEVE IN THE IMPORTANCE OF BLENDING STRONG DIRECT SERVICE WITH EDUCATIONAL COMPONENTS TO PROVIDE ALTERNATIVE BREAKERS WITH A WEEK THEY WILL NEVER FORGET! IN 2012, WE WERE PROUD TO OFFER ALTERNATIVE BREAK STUDENTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE TRAINED IN KINGIAN NON-VIOLENCE PHILOSOPHY AND TECHNIQUES. King and other leaders have used to affect social change.-seven alternative spring break students returned to selma over the summer to participate in our 4-week summer internship program.-130 youth, ages 5-12, participated in summer art camps across ratco's three locations. A total of 50 volunteers helped staff and operate the art camps.-33 volunteers participated in two-day lifeplan training to become certified mentors. -roof replacement and structural engineering assessment completed for historic tepper's building community revitalization project. Collaborated with atlanta community-based organizations such as the amani women's center, the clarkston community center food bank. And the annual clarkston culture fest by providing volunteers for several of their community events. 40 students from fayette county high schools received monthly leadership workshops and year-long mentorship through our new way program. 140 college students, professors, and high schoolers participated in new way conflict resolution training. Began a global women's network to connect women in the U.S.. With women in peru using technology and monthly networking events. Recruited volunteers with medical backgrounds for medical campaigns in rural areas of the andes mountains. Medical team volunteers led school assemblies teaching hand hygiene, tooth brushing, and nutrition. They also provided basic primary care and foot care for town residents. 190 new people donated to something new this year. Pinewood realty group hosted a holiday party that raised over 5,000 to send the nuevo camino kids to school next year. 2019 goals: 1. Review and revise mission statement to reflect current program priorities, most notably something new's evolving work in peru. 2. Explore opportunities for new way's conflict reconciliation training to attract more training contracts at colleges and universities that already have a relationship with something new. 3. Plan and host three medical service trips to peru with a goal of 15 volunteers attending each trip. 4. Secure resources to support the future educational goals of the women who have continued in our nuevo camino program. Hosted one medical service trip to peru with a team of 12 medical professionals. They held a two-day clinic for women and children in our nuevo camino program and also traveled to a remote village in the andes mountains to provide health education. Hosted one summer teachers service trip to cusco for 15 volunteers. The group offered childrens activities and friendship to the women and children in our nuevo camino program. Expanded our work in peru to lima in order to respond to the urgent needs of displaced people from venezuela now living in lima. Initiated housing support and job coaching for 30 individuals. Retained 68 donors from 2018 and secured an additional 53 new donors, ending the year with 152,366 in donations. 2020 goals: - secure safe housing for at least 100 people in lima, peru. - focus support on three vulnerable populations -- single mothers with children fleeing domestic violence, refugees from venezuela, and aging residents of lima without family ties. - provide job coaching, child development programs, emotional support and community for target groups living in our supported housing in lima. - secure financial resources to support our programs.
